Never Knowing Who You Are
Stop searching and celebrate your multitudes
The voice on the end of the line said have you read, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck. Apparently I was living under a rock and had never heard of the book nor Mark Manson for that matter.
Hours later I by chance found myself perusing the isles of a rickety bookstore called Pulp Fiction. No joke, and yes it’s a prehistoric used book shop from a bygone era. I see the Subtle Art Book, pick it up — start reading about Charles Bukowski and his decrepit life (a guilty pleasure of mine). Minutes later I find myself at the till and the clerk says, “Some title eh?” I nod.
If you read fast, you can get through the book with 2 long visits to the bathroom. Or if you skip the book here’s the one gem you need:
I say don’t find yourself. I say never know who you are. Because that’s what keeps you striving and discovering. And it forces you to remain humble in your judgment and accepting of the differences in others.
It’s when we surrender the stories we tell ourselves that we become liberated— free to fail, to learn and grow.
Each Monday I publish a short (and often random) story. If you have any ideas on what you’d like to hear about I’m all ears.
